Founded in 2007, Chartwell Capital takes its name from Sir Winston Churchill’s family estate in Kent. Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This spirit has guided us from the very beginning.
As the founder, I have always envisioned Chartwell as a firm built to endure, grounded in value investing principles, integrity, and the steady pursuit of long‑term performance through changing market cycles and across generations.
Chartwell began as a spin‑out from my family office, where managing our own capital evolved into a lifelong professional calling. What started as a small team serving one family grew into a group of dedicated investment professionals and an independent asset management firm that is now trusted by partners around the world.
Over the years, Chartwell has expanded in both scope and strategy. We began with bespoke managed accounts and later established a range of fund selections. Our early focus on fundamental stock picking developed into an approach we call “friendly engagement,” which involves taking meaningful positions in listed companies across Asia to unlock long-term value for stakeholders. Our regional presence gives us access to opportunities, while active ownership reflects our belief in partnership and purpose.
Today, our in-house funds focus on identifying opportunities in listed equities across Asia. Our financial advisory arm complements this by providing bespoke solutions, particularly in selecting external managers across asset classes such as credit, hedge funds, and private equity. In everything we do, we are guided by a commitment to sustainable performance.
Throughout our journey, our purpose has remained constant. We see ourselves as thoughtful stewards of capital who safeguard clients’ assets, pursue intelligent opportunities, and align our interests by co‑investing alongside them. We rely on values that support sound decision‑making: discipline to remain focused, diligence to conduct our research thoroughly, grit to persevere through challenges, patience to prioritize long‑term outcomes, and agility to adapt while staying true to our principles. These qualities shape how we act, decide, and lead.
Chartwell’s growth has also been driven by collaboration and shared learning. In 2023, we founded Chartwell Family Partners to bring together like‑minded single‑family offices to explore the future of wealth preservation and legacy. In 2024, we launched the Chartwell Institute, a think tank devoted to financial education and the exchange of insights and ideas that strengthen global understanding.
As we chart ahead, we remain your trusted steward, investing for you and with you well into the future.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Ronald W. Chan
